Introduction

(The following was written as the first post of the blog. I moved it to this page to make it easier to find.)

The title of this blog is from the Constitution of the United States of America, which begins (emphasis added):

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

That introduction to the Constitution outlines the specific reasons for which the document was written, and the ideals the framers had in mind when writing the rest of the document. Although I do not think that any one from that list is more important than the others, the "Blessings of Liberty" seem to get much less attention in the modern laws of the United States, compared to things such as providing domestic tranquility and the common defense. Therefore, this blog will be primarily about those Blessings of Liberty, which I feel are under heavy attack from the government.

Not surprisingly, the concept of liberty and libertarian ideals are directly related. So, it follows this blog will provide what I consider to be a libertarian viewpoint (also not surprising, since I am a card-carrying member of the Libertarian Party). One of the notions associated with the libertarian perspective, in terms of rights, is that "my right to swing my fist ends where your nose begins." This explains the subtitle reference to your nose!

It's hard to know what the future holds. Perhaps this blog will never get very far, or perhaps I'll be able to write in it frequently. I hope you'll bookmark it, and comment on the articles you find interesting, whether you agree with my writings or not.
